Boston Impact Initiative
BII advances economic and racial justice by building a sustainable and inclusive economy where entrepreneurs and communities of color have financial, social, and political power.
PRI Profile
The Boston Impact Initiative (BII) Fund II exists to bridge the racial wealth gap in Boston and the greater New England area by providing financing, coaching, and community-building opportunities to entrepreneurs of color.
BII has identified three core problems within racial inequity: 1) disparities in wealth creation and asset ownership, 2) disparities in positions of power, and 3) disparities in access to financing. To address these problems, BII employs creative deal terms, community-owned legal structures, and caps on return for equity deals to build more structure to achieve racial equity.
Highlights
In 2024, BII and the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts (BECMA) co-invested $325,000 in And Still We Rise, a mental health center that specializes in liberation-focused therapy. And Still We Rise provides culturally affirming services to over 1,000 people in MA, the majority of whom identify as coming from marginalized communities.
