REDF Impact Investing Fund

The REDF Impact Investing Fund is a 501(c)(3) debt fund that provides loan capital and technical assistance to nonprofit and for-profit employment social enterprises.

PRI Profile

Created in 2017 in response to demand for capital, the REDF Impact Investing Fund (RIIF) is a debt fund investing in double-bottom line employment social enterprises (ESEs), which provide quality jobs to individuals facing barriers to employment. The RIIF deploys loan capital and provides technical assistance to borrowers on business operations. It is deepening the social impact of REDF by supporting borrowers in their growth and ability to employ and empower more individuals. Investment from the RIIF leverages follow-on capital by improving the financial sustainability of borrowers and enabling them to access new sources of financing. The RIIF leadership team draws on REDF’s 20 years of venture philanthropy experience and deep knowledge of ESE business models to select the right partners and help organizations meet their goals.

Highlights

From 2017 through 2019, REDF built an initial loan pool that consisted of 5 borrowers for a 2019 year-end outstanding portfolio of $825,000. The RIIF hopes to receive its CDFI certification by the end of 2020 and significantly expand the pool of growth capital available to ESEs.
