Pro Mujer

Pro Mujer believes that health is women’s most precious asset, a key to their wellbeing and success in the home, the workplace, and the community.

Grantee Profile

Since the Woodcock Foundation’s earliest days, it has been a core belief that the empowerment of women is a crucial element in any serious effort to end poverty and create a more equitable world. Pro Mujer, a women’s development organization operating in five Latin American countries, also holds this as a core concept. Pro Mujer provides Latin America’s poorest women with a holistic package of services that includes financial services and business development education and training, so that the women can initiate or improve their small businesses. Of particular note is their emphasis not just on business development but on health education and access to health services for the women they serve and their families.

About Our Grants

In 2014, the Woodcock Foundation made a one-year, $50,000 grant to Pro Mujer.  These funds will be used to help Pro Mujer continue to build its capacity to deliver strong financial services, healthcare, and training that build women’s self-esteem and help them to succeed as entrepreneurs. The funds will support the continued implementation of Pro Mujer’s strategic plan, which includes goals of building high-quality customer relationships and services and expanding outreach with a focus on Mexico and Peru.  The funds will also support Pro Mujer’s implementation of a pan-regional communications, branding, and public relations strategy. Underlying this strategy is an effort to reinforce Pro Mujer’s value proposition as an international development organization focused on women’s needs by continually evaluating and improving its services in a way that complements and supports the specific and changing needs of women, and empowers them to create a better future for themselves and their children.
