Center for Science in the Public Interest
CSPI has carved out a niche as the organized voice of the American public on nutrition, food safety, health and other issues.
Grantee Profile
Food – where it comes from, how it’s grown and how it gets to our table – has become an integral part of the conversation about health in this country. Many thought leaders believe the nation has reached a tipping point in consumer demand for food that comes from sustainable food systems. In 2007, the Foundation decided to look into where we might make a contribution in this complex field, and chose to support CSPI, a consumer advocacy organization whose twin missions are to conduct innovative research and advocacy programs in health and nutrition and to provide consumers with current, useful information about their health and well being.
About Our Grants
The Foundation’s one-time grant of $100,000 in 2008 supported the Healthy Food Symbols and Menu Labeling programs, both part of the Trans Atlantic Consumer Dialogue, an advisory group of consumer organizations established by the European Commission and the U.S. Department of State. Funds helped to convene policy makers, nutrition experts, and public health officials from the United States and Europe for Generation Excess III, a conference on public policy approaches to childhood obesity and related problems.
